Is it wrong that whilst I sip from the waxy paper lip of a Starbucks cup containing a "Grande Caramel Macchiato" all I'm able to think about is poor Chinese children slaving away in sweat shops? My sister, (who works in the local cupcake and cafe shop in down town Asheville, Sisters Mcmullen) gobshites a whole lot about the awful coffee, service, and ethics of every Starbucks ever. Spending the past four or five years working in a place that sells free trade organic coffee, I can't blame her but is Starbucks really that bad? Because of her, personal preference, and the abundance of fantastic local cafes in downtown Asheville, I've stuck to those as apposed to the chain but in some instances, for example NOW, when I'm traveling or in some provincial location where I can't simply hop in the car and find a little cafe, Starbucks really does the job. I thought about doing some research, maybe getting some information so I could see and gobshite myself about the dirty business. But I settled for the security of a Macchiato and a good piece of coffee cake no matter the time or place.
Have a good weekend!
